1 November 2009 - THE SPIRIT OF LUCIFER
Isaiah 14:12 “How you are fallen from heaven O Lucifer son of the morning.”
The name Lucifer means the morning star. The other connotation is one of "spreading brightness". It is the symbol of the once bright but now fallen king of Babylon. The title belongs of right to Christ. However it has been assumed by satan and the antichrist. This is the spirit that once energized pagan Babylon; the apostate church and now the antichrist. It is assumed that this Lucifer once occupied a prominent position. However, that position of honor was lost because of the exaltation of himself. The ego in Lucifer could not be contained and therefore he desired to be on equal terms with the creator himself. It was this fundamental flaw that caused his downfall.
There are many people who bear the caliber of Lucifer. They are well meaning wonderful people who love to engage in good works. However, it often happens that these suddenly find themselves in a place where they need personal exaltation. The person becomes greater than the cause. This often happens to well meaning good people. It is the spirit of Lucifer that is prevalent in these lives. This attitude and lifestyle leads to the downfall of many. Their losses are extreme. Many move away from God himself. In this season it’s important for saints to beware of the spirit of Lucifer. It will take over. It can be compared to bad leaven that is hidden in the dough. It rises without detection. Every born again saint of God has to be spiritually alert and regularly examine oneself to see whether they are in the faith. The spirit of Lucifer is set to ruin lives and ministries. Destroy it.
Prayer Point:     Give me wisdom and discernment to guard against this evil spirit

2 November 2009 - NO NEED FOR GREED
I Timothy 3:3  “ A bishop then must be blameless, not greedy for money.”
Paul writes to Timothy about the governance of the church in Ephesus. We understand that without good governance the house of God will not stand. In this chapter he lists the qualifications for the bishop. Here we read that the bishop must be blameless, not greedy for money. This must be understood in the light of scripture as a whole. When we speak about being blameless we do not mean flawless. All men have some faults in their lives. However, the bishop must be one who is constantly overcoming his flaws. He must be pressing toward perfection in Christ. He is to avoid unnecessary involvement in issues that cause him to become a participant in these things. The next part is important. We are told that he must not be greedy for money. This is absolutely necessary. But we must remember that the bishop has a life to live. His cost of living is the same as everyone else. Many boards and councils do not see it this way. They ignore the needs of the bishop and the bishop falls into a trap. He desires to have money. Therefore if he is well cared for then he will have no cause for greed. Greed is forbidden. It’s cause is mainly the lack of care for him. This can be circumvented if his needs are adequately taken care of. He definitely answered the call because he loved God. We in the faith are supposed to take good care of the servant of the Lord. When he lives well his people are blessed. When the people are blessed the community is blessed. This blessing keeps spreading.
Prayer Point:    I pray that leaders the church, will be well  cared for financially

3 November 2009 - GODLY COMPANIONSHIP
2 Timothy 4:11  “Only Luke is with me.”
This letter is probably the last that Paul wrote from prison. It is a very personal and deeply emotional one. The reader cannot help but place himself in the same situation as that of the apostle Paul. He lists those who did him harm and those who left his companionship. The only consolation he has is that Luke is with him. This was the physician, the writer of the third gospel who accompanied Paul on his many mission trips. Luke was faithful to the gospel of the kingdom and the apostle Paul. Luke was sharing the most precious moments with the greatest apostle that the church had; one who’s life and letters gave impetus to the New Testament church like no other. Luke was part of history that was being created and written. However, I don’t think the humble physician had this in mind when he stayed with the apostle in Rome. Jesus Christ in his final hours had no one stand by him. The bible records that all forsook him and fled.
Good Godly companionship is difficult to find today. It is rare. The persons we spend our hours with are very important. They shape us and we them. It is a two way process. The bible declares that iron sharpens iron. There is no doubt that these two sharpened one another. Godly companionship does not just happen. It is by the divine will of God. Therefore we must pray that God will give to us Godly companions. The wrong companions can cause untold damage. Many are scarred for life and lose out on the plan of God because of ungodly associations. The grace of the Lord will help to keep Godly Company. These days there are many wolves dressed in sheep’s clothing. The discernment of the Holy Spirit is greatly needed. Pray for a Luke to be sent to you.
Prayer Point:    I ask that you give me the right friends to enhance kingdom work.

4 November 2009 - BE ON GUARD
Galatians 5:9  “ A little leaven leavens the whole lump.”
In this chapter the apostle begins by exhorting the church to remain in the liberty of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Many of these had come out of Judaism. They knew the religion well. It kept them in subservience all their lives. The law was rigid, inflexible and tough. In Christ the believers enjoyed the freedom that Christ brought. Further they were to now understand the new life in God. Paul wanted to keep them this way without polluting the simplicity of their faith. Most recently their faith was rocked by the issue of circumcision. The apostle points out that they now no longer lived under the law but by the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. He warns that a little leaven leavens a whole lump. This little matter about circumcision could have serious implications for their faith as a whole. They needed to be on guard and purge out that leaven. Leaven was not to be tolerated.
The Gospel of the kingdom of heaven has been preached now for two thousand years. We have heard and seen many who have distorted the message. We know of the likes of Jim Jones and David Goresh who led many to their deaths. We ask the question why or how come? Intelligent people both young and old were led to their deaths by leaders described as lunatic. It all starts with one lie. This is what is referred to as a little leaven. Once accepted the lie is compounded and more lies are added. Finally everything is lost. The initial leaven is important. It must be dealt with. Our safeguard is to be in bible believing churches. Isolation both by clergy and members is dangerous ground for leaven.
Prayer Point:    I ask for wisdom to detect leaven in the early stages.

5 November 2009 - FERVENCY REQUIRED
Revelation 3:16  “Because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will vomit you out of my mouth.”
This text though written to the Laodicean church is relevant for us today. The letters to the seven churches contain directives and lessons for every New Testament church around the world. Laodicea became extremely wealthy during the Roman period. The name means just people. This is an indication that the people were in power. Although this letter is written to the apostle of the Laodicean church, it’s affairs were controlled by it’s people. It is the Lord Jesus who is commanding this letter to be written to the Laodicean church. Therefore it is not to be taken lightly. The issue with the church is that they are neither hot nor cold but have become lukewarm. They had to give urgent attention to the matter on hand. The application must be for today’s church as well.
In being hot we gather there was a need for fervency. This applies to faith that is vibrant, purposeful and relevant. These elements were lost by the church. Being cold meat they were unconcerned, uncaring and irrelevant. This crowd hovered between these two extremes. In either location they would have been tolerated, however, now the threat was that they would be vomited out. God was threatening expulsion from himself. That means they would no longer be contained by him. This devious ungodly position had been reached because of the dominance of carnality. Man was in charge. In every place that apostolic authority is absent this lukewarm ness arises. Therefore every local house must understand who it’s apostle is. This apostle must be the one who listens to God and implements his plan for the local house. Then there will always be fervency.
Prayer Point:    Help us to always be fervent in our love and worship of you.

6 November 2009 - HE IS IMPORTANT
I Corinthians 10:5 “God was not well pleased with them for their bodies were scattered in the wilderness.”
In this text the apostle refers to the peculiar position that the Hebrew nation had with God whilst in the wilderness, He translates their experiences into New Testament parallels. He says they were baptized with Moses in the cloud and the sea; they ate spiritual food and they drank from the spiritual rock which is Christ. These were phenomenal spiritual experiences. On face value anyone going through these experiences was blessed. Some would say that heaven was guaranteed for them. However, the next line puts a damper on the whole celebration. We read with most of them God was not pleased. Our application is very simple. These people had the spiritual experiences which anyone could have. Spiritual experiences are just what they are; nothing more or less. He is implying that your spiritual experiences do not qualify you for God’s favor. His conclusion God was not pleased with them. Pleasing God is more important than our experiences. This inability to please God led to their demise in the wilderness. The harshness is depicted in this verse that says their bodies were scattered in the wilderness. There is nothing noble about the way they died. The reason is that they did not please God.
We are a people who always want some new experience; more of the Holy Spirit; more dancing and shouting; better music and so on. I’m not suggesting that these are wrong. But is God pleased with them. If he isn’t more bodies will be scattered in the desert.
Prayer Point:     Help me stop my foolishness and seek to lease you alone

7 November 2009 - DON’T BE TRAPPED
I John 2:16 “All that is in the world the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes and the pride of life is not of the Father but is of the world.”
John is spreading the message of the kingdom with the core value of love for God and one another. He was aware a long time ago that people would always face distractions. Here he attempts to define a part of what would distract them. He refers to all that is in the world. The world here is not the natural physical habitat of man but rather the world system; everything that is outside of God and Christ. He warns that the world system would try to ensnare them. The devil is the key in this attempt to draw away people. He goes on to list three focal points of a possible falling away. They are the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes and the pride of life. His listeners were well aware of man’s expulsion from Eden and the sins of Adam and Eve. This warning has similar connotations. In the garden Eve is questioned by the serpent and replies we may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden we shall not eat. There was one tree that they needed to stay away from. Satan appealed to her flesh and made her sin. Then we notice she saw that the tree was good for food. The serpent said your eyes will be opened. This act constituted the lust of the eyes. Finally the serpent says a tree desirable to make one wise. This appealed to her pride and she ate. Thus man was driven out by this threefold folly. We still face the same problems. Our flesh lusts after things that God forbids. Advertisers whet our appetites by visual presentations and then our personal pride hops into the wagon and we give in to the devil. We must be watchful all the time. Don’t let the guard down. Don’t be trapped.
Prayer Point:   I thank you for the wisdom of Christ and the Holy Spirit to guide me.

8 November 2009 - WIN THIS BATTLE
Galatians 5:17 “The flesh lusts against the Spirit and the Spirit against the flesh; these are contrary one to another.”
Our salvation is something that we all celebrate. We know the time when we came to Christ and made him Lord of our lives. We continue this way for a season. The initial days are fun filled and exciting for many. It might appear that we have conquered all and have arrived. Then at some point we notice that there are fleshly tendencies that we possess. At this point many believers lose hope. They think they have once again become unsaved. The problem is that we have this dual nature. The lower part of this is referred to as the flesh. Contrary to some who teach an eradication principle we who know reality are aware that this is true. Ours is a constant battle with this flesh. Paul writing to the Roman church expresses the same thoughts. Here we are once again face to face with it.
We are saved and being saved. There is a progressive element. When Christ returns we shall be completely liberated from the burden of the flesh. Until that day comes we have to learn to subdue the flesh. People recommend all forms of stuff viz. prayer, fasting, bible reading and so on. They do help to a certain degree.
We must firstly be aware that this is a universal problem. We can only handle it by the grace of God. It’s important to make right choices. Know what God forbids. Godly company is vital in our quest to overcome. Isolation is a serious enemy and can damage us. Each day must be taken in it’s stride. Celebrate the little victories. We can win.
Prayer Point:     I thank you for grace to overcome every work of the flesh.

9 November 2009 - THE PERSON OF PEACE
Acts 16:14 “ A certain woman named Lydia heard us.”
Paul receives a vision from God to go to Macedonia. He immediately sets out. They come to the city Philippi and they stayed in the city for a few days. On the Sabbath they go down to the riverside and meet people who gather there to pray. It is there that they meet the woman named Lydia. The Lord opened her heart to receive the word that Paul preached. Later she invites them to her home. The message takes root in the city. We know that this grew to become a very benevolent church filled with the grace of God. Lydia was the opening in Philippi. She was the woman of peace that took the apostles in.
This message of the kingdom is not acceptable to everyone. Very often we look at the television evangelists and hope that we can have the masses come to Christ. It does not necessarily work that way. God begins by a slow deep process. He starts with a person and then brings in the multitude. This is accurate building. The believers who come to Christ in this manner become true disciples of our Lord Jesus. These are the ones who remain true and faithful. They are well grounded and do not follow for loaves and fish.
Our call is to spread the message. We must seek out those like Lydia and make a permanent deposit into their lives. Her household was saved and baptized. The name Lydia means a standing pool. She was praying by the riverside and received fresh water from the apostle and became a source for the word of God. Outwardly she may have seemed an unlikely candidate yet God moved through her. We must not despise anyone. Those who are least in the kingdom are able to make a great impact.
Prayer Point:    Holy Spirit guide me as I seek out people who receive your word.

10 November 2009 - DEVILISH TRAPS
Judges 16:9 “There were men lying in wait, staying with her in the room.”
Samson was called by God to judge the nation of Israel. This was a difficult time for the backslidden, worldly minded people. His mother received specific instructions before his birth. He was fully separated to the work of the kingdom. Samson however, misused his power and fell into the hands of the enemy. In this text he has an alliance with Delilah. Her name means the poor of the Lord. Samson was rich in spirit and full of the power of God, yet he formed an unholy alliance with this Philistine. We must understand that God expects us to elevate people not to stoop to lower levels. Samson’s shenanigans with Delilah cost him dearly. In this text he is with this Delilah and men were lying in wait staying with her in the room. The woman he thought loved him was engaged in his betrayal and downfall. Samson foolishly played right into their hands.
This walk with God is a difficult one. Many will tell you that the road is long, hard and full of perils. It is incumbent upon us to beware who we trust. Not everyone is trustworthy. Judas betrayed the Lord; Lot came against Abraham and Cain slew Abel. These elements are with us all the time. God must direct you to your associates. He will give you signs. You will find the man with the pitcher of water; people by the riverside; someone at the well; a person who truly says you are bone of my bone and flesh of my flesh. Only these must become your associates. The enemy operates as an angel of light seeking to destroy. Don’t be fooled. Delilah has Philistines lying in wait to destroy your life. Remain steadfastly in Zion and keep company with those who eat the bread of life.
Prayer Point:    God almighty guide my every step in this time of wickedness and evil.

11 November 2009 - A NEW WAY
Psalm 119:29”Remove from me the way of lying, and grant me your law graciously.”
This is a gracious request from the Psalmist. He is pleading for change. Now carefully observe the request, remove from me the way of lying. When we talk about a way we are referring to a system. We also have in mind a common accepted practice which has become a norm. The gospel was first referred to as the way. In other places way refers to a lifestyle. This prayer is serious. It is not about a single lie that has been spoken. It is about a whole lifestyle. Therefore we ought to consider this deeply. There are some folk who may speak an occasional lie to get away with something. There are others who tell lies that they feel will not hurt anyone or for their own benefit. These are referred to as white lies. Our text goes beyond all that has been said and refers to a lifestyle of lying.
This dilemma cannot be solved by prayer and fasting. The Psalmist has the correct idea. He says grant me your law graciously. This is a request fro the law of God; the word of God. He understands that when that word of God is in him then only can he move out of this way of lying. The psalmist knew the dilemma and also had the solution. Lies constitute a serious threat in the kingdom. Jesus said I am the way the truth and the life. Once in him we should hold nothing but the truth. Therefore when we have the word, we have Christ and when we have Christ truth will always prevail. The sure way of dealing with lying patterns is to fill ourselves with his law; his word. Then only truth will be heard and seen. Today when people think nothing of lying we must challenge them.
Prayer Point:    Lord I ask that you help me to live the way of truth and peace always

12 November 2009 - IT’S NOT WORTH IT
Proverbs 21:6 “Getting treasures by a lying tongue is the fleeting fantasy of those who seek death.”
The book of proverbs repeatedly stops us in our tracks. We sit up and take note of certain things. This is one of those instances. Here he refers to a fleeting fantasy. We know that a fantasy is something that is not real. It is only imaginary. It is something we make believe. He goes further and says that this is a fantasy that is fleeting. That means it is constantly running away. It can’t be caught and it can’t become a reality. The bottom line is found in the fact that he refers to treasures as a fantasy. This is not just any treasure but treasure got by a lying tongue. The conclusion is that if you use lies to obtain treasure then it is nothing more than a fleeting fantasy. It’s only imaginary; only an illusion; just a mirage and nothing lasting. Further when treasures are got this way it is a sign that the person who seeks it desires death. Treasures got by lying will cause you to lose your life. This is a profound proverb that God has given to us.
In the Old Testament we note that Achan and his family got treasures this way. They were taken out of the camp and stoned to death. When Gehazi lied to Elisha he was stricken with leprosy. His end was a deadly disease. In New Testament times we read of Ananias and Sapphira who stole and suffered death. The Lord is a God of truth and justice. He will deal with us when we follow the path of evil. Let’s clean up our acts. Whatever we gain must be by honest means. Honest gain will be blessed and enjoyed.
Prayer Point:     I submit to truth because I know that I shall be blessed in the end.

13 November 2009 - LET’S CHANGE HIM
Acts 14:8 “In Lystra a certain man was sitting, a cripple from his mother’s womb who had never walked.
Paul and his party arrive in Lystra by default. They immediately encounter a crippled man who had never walked. This was the first sign that greeted the group. This man was a spiritual representation of that city. This was a city where not much was known. The people themselves were in a sitting position. They were inactive. They lost their mobility. Here the apostle comes to bring about some change. This position was not good for them. In like manner when the spirit of God enters we immediately rise to a position of standing. This is the position of the priest. This change in our position must become a spiritual one. Note also that this man was a cripple from his mother’s womb. His problems were there before his birthing. It had to do with his conception. Paul was dealing with the birth issue. We must be born again. That which is born f the flesh is flesh and that of the spirit is spirit. We all need that spiritual birth encounter. The man was also unable to walk into his purposes. If he never walked he never experienced the true purposes of God. When we know Christ fully we walk in his plans and purposes. Lystra was in for a pleasant surprise. Paul called to the man to stand upright. He immediately got up and everyone marveled. It took just one command from the apostle to restore the order into the man’s life. The same is true of us. Wherever there is spiritual evidence of this kind of crippled man we must call upon the voice of God. That voice which is the word of God will transform lives supernaturally. We want everyone to be in readiness.
Prayer Point:   You have given me an upright position in you I want to enjoy that.

14 November 2009  - UNDERCOVER
I Samuel 21:13 “So he changed his behavior before them, pretended madness in their hands and let his saliva fall down on his beard.”
David has been anointed king of Israel. Saul was still in command and refused to leave the young David in peace. In an attempt to hide himself David goes to Achish the king of Gath. He is well known for his great defeat of Goliath and must hide himself. Therefore David changed his behavior before them, pretended madness in their hands and let his saliva fall down on his beard. David had to be in a place where he couldn’t be found. It was difficult for him to know who was on his side and who was against him. This role of a lunatic helped in stalling Saul’s attack on him. However, from this vantage point amongst the Philistines he went out on frequent attacks against the Philistines. He later moved out. David was skilful in his behavior. This episode in his life was essential.
We are all called by God for special purposes. We must never lose track of what God wants us to do. The fulfillment of his plan must be paramount in our minds. Nothing must happen to abort the plan of God. David knew this well. His kingship over Israel was God’s doing. He had to do everything in his power to protect himself from harm. It entailed acting like a lunatic before the Philistines and David was no ashamed of that. He knew that better days were ahead. One of our follies in these days is that we are not able to protect that which God has given us. We are busy with other issues and leave the main issue open to enemy attack. David did not do this. Whatever you are called to do is important before God. Protect the springboard. You will achieve your greatness.
Prayer Point:    I realize my importance in the kingdom. Help me preserve myself

15 November 2009 - THE SPIRIT OF BABYLON
Jeremiah 51:7 “The nations drank Babylon’s wine therefore the nations are deranged.”
This is Jeremiah’s lament over the people of God. They have become like the rest of the nations. Babylon is the cause of this great evil Here he describes Babylon’s influence. He says the nations drank Babylon’s wine therefore the nations are deranged. We know that wine is symbolical. Further the wine is that which constitutes the lifeblood of a nation. God’s people had their own wine. Their wine was the commitment to God almighty and him alone. The first commandment said you shall have no other gods before me. Israel’s wine was Jehovah God and nothing else. Babylon stands not only for the region but for the principle behind it. Babylon is described as the great harlot.  The harlotry is the constant joining with heathen deities and peoples. Babylon under Nebuchadnezzar attacked and destroyed Zion. The people were taken captive. They enjoyed the spoils of their war. Now God through the prophet declares judgment against them. It was time for Babylon to fall. Her glory days were now over.
In similar manner the world has the spirit of Babylon. This spirit seeks to draw away the people of God. It lures them to it with bright lights and great promises. There is also an element of Babylon within the body of Christ. This is that which claims prosperity, power and blessings and has little regard for the Christ who shed his blood for them. This religious Babylon is set to be judged. The Zion of God has been crying out to God. It is time for God to move. The body of Christ will be expunged of this Babylonian element in these final days. They will be judged by the word of God. The bride is waiting to emerge.
Prayer Point:  Help us to be faithful in a time when there is a falling away from Christ

16 November 2009 - HOW LONG?
Genesis 6:3 “My Spirit shall not always strive with man forever.”
These opening chapters of Genesis are a thrilling account of God’s great work upon the earth. As this magnificent story unfolds we see the creator in all his grandeur and splendor. The fall of Adam and Eve brings pain to us and as we go on we observe the corruption that entered mankind. Here we see man in his low estate. The bible records that man began to do evil. This evil became untenable until the Lord said my Spirit shall not always strive with man forever. It seems from this verse that God was now grieved with man’s behavior and wanted it to end. This resulted in Noah’s flood and the destruction of humankind. This verse should cause us to think about our position in him. God had reached the end of his striving with man. That was indeed a sad day. After the flood he promised that he would not drown the earth by a flood again.
We owe all things to God. The bible declares without him we can do nothing. We are called to love the Lord our God with all our heart and soul. This is a demand that is placed upon us because we are his subjects. Man however, has many other loves. God is furthest away from his heart. We are occupied with many things. These involvements are for our own welfare. There isn’t the in him we live and move and have our being. That is totally absent. We only give to him our spare time; In other words the left over, the scrap, the crumbs from the table. God winks at our ignorance for a while but not always. Our consciences should alert us about our shortcomings. Will he always strive with man?
Prayer Point:    I ask for the grace of our Lord Jesus to keep me in these tough times

17 November 2009 - GIVE ACCORDINGLY
Deuteronomy 16:17 “Every man shall give as he is able according the blessing of the Lord which he has given you.”
The Hebrew people were strict adherents to the commands of God. In reading the Old Testament we observe how many demands were placed upon them. They had many feasts to attend to and there were sacrifices to be offered. In this context they had to present themselves at the temple three times a year. Everyone did not live close to the temple. With all these demands they were bound to neglect their own farms and lives. Yet God blessed them abundantly. It was their commitment to his requirements that made them prosperous. To this day we know that they are a people blessed of God.
In our text we have another requirement. Every man shall give as he is able according to the blessing of the Lord which he has given you. We read earlier that no one was to appear in Jerusalem empty handed. They had to bring their offerings. Our text says they should give according to the blessings God has given to them. This still applies to us. We are the Israel of God. We are called the people of Zion. Our giving patterns must exceed that of the Hebrew nation. We too will be blessed. When we give according to the blessing we receive we may ask how much is that? The answer is that God has blessed us with everything. David said riches and honor and blessings come from you, all things are yours. We owe it all to him. Therefore we must be able to give beyond measure. There is nothing that we own. Without him we would have nothing. This principle cannot be understood by the carnal. Those that are in the spirit of Christ will gladly follow this call. We shall in due course see the harvest and then the inheritance.
Prayer Point:    Teach me your ways so that I too can give my best to the kingdom

18 November 2009 - HE CAN USE ANYONE
Judges 3:15 “The Lord raised up a deliverer for them; Ehud the son of Gera, the Benjamite, a left handed man.”
The people of God had a difficult time during the reign of the judges. It was a see saw kind of lifestyle. When they did well they were blessed and when they did evil they were punished. This cycle went on year after year. Here is another of their judges named Ehud. His name means he that praises. We are told that he was a deliverer.  The people could trust him to bring deliverance in these times. However, we note also that he was a left handed man. This particular characteristic of his life is pointed out because he was unlike the regular people. Most people are right handed. Sometimes being left handed is considered being weak or defective. This deliverer though left handed was commissioned by God. The king Eglon and the Moabites attacked Israel and took away spoil. It was Ehud who went into the king’s domain and stabbed him with his left hand. The king died. God’s people under Ehud killed ten thousand of the Moabites and ruled over them. The land had peace for eighty years. Ehud was used by God for the people’s benefit.
We often look at people from an outward perspective. We observe flaws, shortcomings and defects and therefore discount many people. In our estimate they can not amount to much. This victory by Ehud the left handed man proves us wrong. God can use anyone for his glory. We must believe that even the weakest amongst us is capable of victory. The battle is not ours but the Lord’s. Therefore take heart and move into success.
Prayer Point:    I know that you will use me despite my weaknesses and faults.

19 November 2009 - GODLY CITIES
I Samuel 9:6 “There is in this city a man of God and he is an honorable man; all that he says shall surely come to pass.”
Saul the son of Kish a Benjamite is looking for his father’s lost donkeys. His journey takes him to several places and finally he ends up in the district of Zuph. Saul was ready to call of the search because he had been away for a long time. His father too would be worried. It is then that Saul’s servant comes up with the idea. There is in this city a man of God and he is an honorable man; all that he says shall surely come to pass so says the servant. They decide to go to him to enquire about the donkey. It is during this time that Saul is anointed king of Israel. His ordinary outing was turned into a miracle from God. They were wise in consulting the man of God in the city.
Our cities have become synonymous with crime, drugs, prostitution and other evils. Going into some cities give you the impression that you may be in Sodom. We cannot let this evil prevent the operation of the Spirit of God. We must ensure that every city has a man of God. There will be enquirers therefore a witness must be present. There are men of God in our cities but what is lacking is that there are few honorable men still left. This is a dying breed facing extinction. It is only this type of man that can impact people’s lives. Charlatans and thieves offer nothing at all. We need men of God who will be able to speak and the thing must come to pass. This is the need for the hour. Our task is to pray that God would give us such men. The cities are crying out so too are the sons of God. The time for this manifestation is today. Kings will be raised and the lost will be found when we have the right men of God in the city. Make this your burden.
Prayer Point:     God raise up men after your own heart to bless our cities.

20 November 2009 -  A GREAT GOD
I Chronicles 16:21 “He permitted no man to do them wrong; yes he rebuked kings for their sake.”
This text records a part of the history of God’s people who came out of Egypt. Theirs was no easy journey. The wilderness and opposition from other nations proved to be quite a handful. Despite all this they finally settled in The Promised Land. The writer here speaks of the divine protection they enjoyed on their journeys. The bible says he permitted no man to do them wrong. Men did try to harm God’s people but God prevented them from harming his own. Israel had no idea that it was their God protecting them. The intent to do evil against God’s people was there but could not be executed. This is how the master works. Very often in our times of hardship we feel no one is with us. Take heart God will not allow anyone to do you harm.  He who controls the heaven and the earth will ensure that no arrow of the enemy touches you. Further we read he rebuked kings for their sakes. The high rank meant nothing to God’s people. They knew God was above every man upon the face of the earth. He stopped the mouths of kings and quelled their evil actions against God’s own. The people dwelt in safety because of their God. When ever people are on an exodus or pilgrimage they can trust God to be with them. In this season people of God can receive similar protection. Just stay close to those who are blessed and God will allow the blessings and riches to pass on to you. All things are in His hands. He will allow that which is for our good only. The evil will be promptly dealt with.
Prayer Point:      Your love for us re
aches the clouds therefore I exalt you O Lord.

21 November 2009  - WHAT A FUTURE !!
Psalm 37:37 “Mark the blameless man and observe the upright; for the future of that man is peace.”
This psalm calls us to make some observations. Note when God asks us to observe something it is for our benefit. Many times we are oblivious about what he’s doing in the earth. It is by careful watching that we are able to see clearly and learn. When we observe we can do likewise and be blessed. In this text we are not called to behold a miracle; a nation; a sign or some other thing, we are told to mark the blameless and upright man. The blameless and upright are those who walk in the ways of God. They keep his commands and statutes and are in favor with both God and man. Despite what the world says there are blameless and upright men on the face of the earth. In a wicked and evil generation God spotted a Noah; in a heathen nation there was the Ruth; out of Jericho there arose a Rahab. These incidents teach us that in our present seemingly evil societies there are those who are blameless and upright. When Elijah complained that he was the only one standing God reminded him that there were seven thousand others who had not bowed the knee to Baal. There are multitudes that are blameless and upright.
God shows us what the end will be like for these upright persons. Their future is peace. This might seem absurd. On face value some will conclude that these righteous will just be living in peace and tranquility or with the absence of war. The bible teaches that Our God is a God of peace; Jesus is the prince of peace. If the future of the righteous man is peace then his future is the fullness of Christ. This fullness of Christ is not just some happy feeling, it is all that Christ was and is the beloved of the Father, son of God.
Prayer Point:     I walk uprightly because I want to fully possess Christ

22 November 2009 - SPIRIT POWER
Proverbs 18:14 “The spirit of a man will sustain him in sickness.”
We believe that we are tripartite beings. That means we possess body, soul and spirit. The spirit is supposed to be the part that is God conscious. It is the place where God by his spirit dwells in man. This is the innermost sanctum of man. We often hear comparisons between the human body and the temple of the Lord. Just as the temple had three parts viz the outer court, the holy place and the holy of holies so too man has these three divisions; the holy of holies corresponding to the spirit of man. The spirit is supposed to be the controlling factor in man. It is supposed to have dominance in the person led by God. We have scriptures that speak about the flesh and the spirit. These refer to what part really controls man. When God lives in a person that person is supposed to be totally controlled by the Spirit of God. Often the body suffers from weaknesses. It is the natural fleshly man that is attacked; we read that the flesh is weak. Our text says the spirit of man will sustain him in sickness. This means that the human spirit can sustain man when he is ill. This human spirit can do nothing unless it is indwelt by the Spirit of the Lord God Almighty. This ignited human spirit can sustain you in sickness.
This spirit indwelt by God’s Spirit is aware of who his God is. It knows and understands I am the Lord that healeth thee; it full comprehends by his stripes we were healed; it believes no weapon formed against it can prosper. Such a human spirit engages the sickness in the body with God’s written order and so helps the body recover when sick.
Prayer Point:  I ask that you help me to enjoy the fullness of your Spirit and power

23 November 2009 - ENJOY HIS BLESSINGS
Ecclesiastes 2:24 “Nothing is better for a man than that he should eat and drink, and that his soul should enjoy good in his labor.”
The book of Ecclesiastes contains the words of the preacher. He addresses the mundane and useless issues and calls them vanity. There are life’s lessons wrapped up in this rather intriguing writings. Here is a very practical view of life. We are told that it is better for man to eat, drink and enjoy good in his labor. The eating and drinking are not a license to overindulge. Some have taken it out of context and have made life one long big party. This position is sinful before God. Our concern should be the second part of that verse
his soul should enjoy good in his labor. It is encouraging man to enjoy that which he works so hard for. This in itself is not a sin before God. He commands it.
The bible teaches that the husbandman must first partake of the fruit of his field; the ox that treads must not be muzzled. These texts allow man to enjoy his labor. Some men are mean they do not want o enjoy their labor. They keep storing up for years on end. These finally pass on and others enjoy their labors. This is not wise. Then there are those who feel guilty about enjoying their labor. They punish themselves by not rejoicing. God forbids that. Man can and must enjoy his labor. When he knows God and understands that all things are given by him he can start to enjoy his labor. In his enjoyment he must never forget his obligations to the kingdom of God and to those who are unfortunate. Enjoyment outside of those boundaries would definitely be sin. Those who labor are worthy of great honor. This enjoyment is part of the honor. Live by his word.
Prayer Point:    I want to live long and enjoy what God has given to me.

24 November 2009 - CLEANSED BY HIM
Isaiah 6:5 “I am a man of unclean lips and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips.”
Isaiah sees a magnificent vision of the eternal God. He hears singing and the glory fills the place. He hears the voice of God and feels the place being shaken. There is a commission to be fulfilled and someone is required. The prophet responds with the words here I am send me. It is in the context of this great and extravagant happening that Isaiah utters these words I am a man of unclean lips and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips. There was no call for repentance neither was there any question about anyone. The glory just filled the place. It was because of the manifest presence of God that Isaiah saw his own weaknesses. Prior to this he had no conviction of his so called uncleanness. We all love to live righteous lives. We set our own standards and rules and operate by them. These standards set by us are believed to be correct. The only time our own standards will be tested is when God’s eternal glory fills the place where we are. Then we too will notice that we have unclean lips. Isaiah then realized that the people he lived amongst were no better than him. With this realization God moved into action.
An angel touches his lips with a live coal from the altar. His iniquity is removed. God will never move to cleanse us unless we are willing to confess our weak evil estate. When this is done heaven closes in on us to cleanse us by his spirit. It is only then we are able to go on behalf of the King of glory. Carriers of the message of the kingdom must realize that the lips, the organ of communication must be healed. Then we can go into the world.
Prayer Point:     I come to the altar of heaven for a cleansing of my innermost being

25 November 2009 - POOR RESPONSE
Luke1:18 “How shall I know this? For I am an old man, and my wife is well advanced in years.”
These words were spoken by Zechariah who is serving as a priest in the temple. Whilst on duty, he is visited by an angel who informs him that his barren wife Elizabeth was going to bear a child. He is shocked by the announcement. It is then that he responds how shall I know this? for I am an old man, and my wife is well advanced in years. It was difficult for Zechariah to understand how this could happen. We know that later John the Baptist was born in accordance with that promise. Zechariah however, after his question to the angel became dumb until the birth of John the Baptist. He was punished for his unbelief. The punishment may seem harsh seeing that he was an old man. We must therefore consider why this was so. Zechariah served in the temple of God. This was no mean task. They served a living God whose history amongst the Jewish people was very well known and documented. Their God was a God of miracles; the God of the impossible. The divine visitation and announcement should have been received with gladness by one who served in his capacity. He had no excuse for unbelief.
We too must place ourselves in Zechariah’s position. The mature seasoned believer must understand fully the workings of God. We cannot act and remain babes in the kingdom. Our beliefs, prayers, positions and decisions must reflect maturity. In tough times and good times we must respond as those who are mature. There will be times when God answers instantaneously; at other times there are delays; still further he denies certain things. We dare not respond with questions, doubts and antagonism.
Prayer Point:    Lord  I want to live close to you to know your will for my life.

26 November 2009 - DON’T DELAY
John 3:2 “You are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these miracles that you do unless God is with him.”
Nicodemus is a ruler of the Jews as the bible says. He held a prominent position in the Sanhedrin. He was also a teacher of the law. In this first encounter with Jesus he knows understands and confesses that Jesus is the son of God. His declaration in this verse is certainly worthy of note. Jesus speaks to him about being born again. We later notice that Nicodemus is featured in the account where the temple guards were asked to arrest Jesus. They return with the comment never man spoke like this man. Here Nicodemus is present once more and enquires about the right to arrest the Christ. Our final encounter with Nicodemus is when he accompanies Joseph of Arimathea to bury the body of the Lord. He brings along a mixture of myrrh and aloes. Nicodemus however, totally disappears from the scene after this. There is no record of his discipleship or otherwise.
It is quite possible to know the truth, live close to the truth and even interact with truth and yet never commit to the truth. This is exactly what happened to Nicodemus. He failed to make a total commitment to Christ. We too need to be on guard. We cannot remain enquirers all our lives. There must be a point in time when we make a decision, a commitment. Failure to do so will result in injury to our spirits. We can so easily be lost. Perhaps Nicodemus thought he had too much to lose. He may also have been afraid of his colleagues. He like many missed the greatest opportunity of his life. We must not.
Prayer Point: I thank you Lord for the Holy Spirit who teaches and convicts me.

27 November 2009 - RIGHT APPROACH
Acts 6:5 “They chose Stephen a man full of faith and the Holy Spirit.”
Our text is set in the context of the early church. The church of Jesus Christ is growing rapidly and many are being added to the flock. With this new development there are many needs arising. We must also bear in mind that persecution was rife. Many had left their former faith and now turned to Christ. This was a recipe for much hostility against the new church. In this instance there was a complaint that the widows were being neglected. The leaders appropriately set about to rectify the matter. Here we read that they chose Stephen a man full of faith and the Holy Spirit. He was one of many who were selected to oversee the administration of care to the widows. He and others had to be qualified. Our text refers to the caliber of persons that were engaged in this task, men full of faith and the Holy Spirit. This task of caring for the widows might appear to some to be a menial task. In many circles it is treated as such. The burden for such responsibilities is usually thrust upon folk who can just about manage it; here however, it was different. The people chosen to care for the widows had to have the same qualifications as those who were preaching and teaching the good news. There was no difference. Everything they did was ministry to God. How awesome this is? We can learn much from this. Everything done within the context of a Christian church must be regarded as kingdom work. Kingdom work cannot be treated shabbily. The best personnel must be used and every expertise should be engaged. Kingdom work done this way will bring kingdom rewards. The church must supersede the secular in it’s provision of service and care for those who are challenged. This is our call today. Do the best.
Prayer Point:    Lord give us wisdom to do the best and be the best we can always.

28 November 2009  - TIME FOR CHANGE
I Corinthians 13:11 “When I became a man I put away childish things.”
We often hear people say to someone don’t be such a baby or stop acting like a baby. These expressions are a reflection of what the person is like and what others expect of them. We are always faced with people who act and behave childishly. The lack of maturity upsets us. Here Paul makes a very noteworthy remark when I became a man I put away childish things. Here is an admission that he was childish and immature. We concur that there is a time and place for that. It is definitely a part of everyone’s life. The important observation is that this state should not become a permanent feature of life. He is inferring that we cannot spend the whole of our lives as children or with childish behavior. There must be a place and point of change and transition.
We are told that becoming a man or mature entails putting away childish things. In other words you cannot be mature unless the childish things are put away. These two cannot co-exist. Childishness and maturity cannot dwell together. Every aspect of our Christian life and walk must reveal maturity. The Lord expects this of us. This does not mean we do not make mistakes. We are expected to display maturity. The childish behavior is akin to fleshly behavior. This does not go away by prayer. Note the terms I put away childish things. God did not take it away, I put it away. If this is true then none of us have the excuse to behave childishly. Let’s now move on the path to maturity.
Prayer Point:    I ask for the Holy Spirit to teach me so that I can walk in maturity

29 November 2009 - AT THE RIGHT TIME
2 Corinthians 12:4 “He was caught up into Paradise and heard inexpressible words which it is not lawful for a man to utter.”
Paul the apostle of our Lord Jesus had some profound experiences with God. We first meet him on the road to Damascus persecuting the saints. He is later struck to the ground and Christ speaks to him. We read in other places about the visit by angels and escaping without injury. Other miraculous happenings also fascinate us who follow the Lord. Here however we read something quite unique. He says he knew a man who was caught up into Paradise and heard inexpressible words which it is not lawful for a man to utter. Here the apostle seeks to share a truth and keeps himself out of the limelight. Hence the phrase I knew a man. Here now his desire for non disclosure about certain mysteries.
This is truly the mark of a true apostle. Paul is regarded as the least of the apostles. He did not share in any personal contact with the Lord Jesus Christ. His colleagues could boast of their time with the master. He had none of that. The temptation to speak the mysteries must have weighed heavily on him. By doing so he could possibly be on par or perhaps supersede the others. It could have been so easy. Yet he chose not to.
People of God need this same caution. In today’s Christianity the behavior is so unlike this one. The prophetic breath may have not even gone cold and people will publish it; a person may barely have woken from their sleep and they will announce their dreams; the giant may still be on his feet and people announce victory. We have to learn not to express certain things. They are between God and the person not for the public.
Prayer Point:     Help me to refrain from speaking about certain mysteries of Christ

30 November 2009 - GOOD WORK
Galatians 6:4 “Let each one examine his own work then he will have rejoicing.”
In the preceding verse we are warned against boasting. We are told that if anyone thinks himself to be something when he is nothing he deceives himself.  This exhortation should caution us against any form of ostentation. In today’s Christian circles we seem to have forgotten this call. When believers gather together we aim to outdo each other with our tales, testimonies and anecdotes. Rather than involve ourselves in unnecessary boasting the apostle exhorts examine your own work. Do not show off but rather closely scrutinize your labors. This is a frightening statement. It calls for close scrutiny not peripheral. Kingdom requirements are stringent. Nothing but the best will do. We must note whether we have produced good grain or have raised tares. This will be seen in those we have shepherded. The quality of our labor must stand the test of the fire. We must be weighed by the master. God put his people to the test. Some made it others failed.
The test is through the word of God. That means we have to establish what the truth has produced in people. It’s not uncommon for folk to use gimmicks to imitate the genuine. We have to present the real product. When people are changed by the word; when people grow because of the word; when people become prosperous and blessed because of the word then we can safely say the word has worked.. Jesus Christ our Lord commanded that we should keep his commands; that we cannot live by bread alone but by his word.
Christ is referred to as the living word. In him the written and spoken word are expressed.
Prayer Point:    I thank you for the word which bears fruit in the midst of your people
